First Ever Australian Pro-Life Walk Begins
BRISBANE – Crossroads, an international youth based pro-life organization that sponsors pro-life walks in the United States, Canada, Ireland & Spain has just announced their first-ever pro-life walk in Australia.
Made up of young people from across Australia, this new walk began this past weekend on December 15 in Brisbane and will end 4 weeks later on January 12 in Melbourne at the steps of Parliament. The walk will cover 1,500 kilometres and pass through Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.
“We are very excited about this newest Crossroads walk in Australia” said Allison Lattie, one of the Crossroads members currently with the walk. “Since beginning in 1995 with one walk in the US, we now have spread to include 8 annual pro-life walks in 5 countries.” Continued Lattie. “We are proud to have the Thomas More Centre (www.tmc.org.au) and the Young Political Activists Training groups as our official sponsors for this new walk. They are youth organizations based in Balwyn, Victoria and a few of their members are also walking with us. We are also happy to have Youth for Life of Australia and several other groups as partners for this new walk.”
During the day, the Crossroads walkers will be walking along the roads of Australia in major cities. On the weekends, they will be praying at local abortion clinics with local pro-life groups as well as speaking to youth groups and at churches to raise awareness to the pro-life issue and to encourage people to get involved in building a Culture of Life.
“We had no problem recruiting enough young people to walk on this new walk” said Lattie. “Support for this new walk has been strong and we are excited to work with youth in all of these countries to continue changing the hearts and minds on the issue of life.” Continued Lattie.
Lattie worked with NET Ministries for a year in Australia and is excited to be back there to work with young people.
